Final Evaluation

Final Evaluation

Shoot 1
In shoot 1 I chose to base it on the everyday activities of the people I am close to, e.g my family. I chose to use this idea because it linked to my preparatory shoots which showed everyday activities but in a stereotypical way. Although I have used the same people that were in my preparatory shoots I decided to change the stereotypical vibe and use their own activities to make the pictures produced become more personal. My research log has influenced my work significantly because it gave me some ideas on how to compose my images. The research of the different photographers I did has also influenced my work too. Barbara Kruger has influenced my work in the physical experiment section, I used her ideas of changing the meaning of the images and making them seem as if they are liked to feminism or just giving them deeper meanings. Also, my work relates more significantly to Bruce Davidson because I enjoyed his work very much, I tried to incorporate his depressing effect throughout my images the way he did, his work influenced me in the computer experiment section where I made the images I had taken black and white.

Shoot 2
In shoot 2 I chose to base it on the everyday activities of young football players and the manager, this was effective in my work because I showed what different activities they have to go through on a normal training session. In this shoot I wanted to tell a story because I wanted to show the beginning of the training session and what happens throughout the training session. I think I achieved in this aspect because the shoot shows the different activities that the boys take part in. My preparatory shoots link to this shoot because I produced a shoot on football but it didn't turn out as well as I had hoped, this shoot turned out much better. By having the first attempt at this subject turn out not as good as I had hoped helped me improve in this shoot because it gave me ideas on how to improve for example camera angles and camera settings. I didn't feature much about football in my research log but my photographer research as I said in the shoot 1 part did help influence my work. Bruce Davidson influenced my computer experiments and Barbara Kruger helped influence my physical experiments.

From both of these shoots I have learnt a lot along the lines of technicality. I have experimented with my camera a lot during these shoots which has helped me significantly because it influenced the way that I would take the photos. For example, in my shoot 2, when taking pictures of the football it was quite hard to get the right settings to be able to make sure that I wouldn't capture any blurs or any unfocused parts, because I had experimented in preparatory shoots with the camera settings I already knew which camera settings I would have to be using. In most cases I would always use aperture priority when taking these images but for the images that used movement I focused more on the shutter speed so I could refrain from having no blurred images.

In both of these shoots I have presented the pictures in different ways. In the first shoot I have photographed people doing things but I have also photographed still images, this is similar to what I did in the second shoot too. In both shoots I have also created computer and physical experiments which also link to presenting my photos in different ways. In the computer experiments I edited all my images using the camera raw filter and made them all black and white. I also used physical experiments in my shoots to present the images in different ways. For example, I changed the way that photos looked by ripping them, screwing them up and sticking captions onto the images.

By looking at these two shoots I think I was successful at answering the exam paper because I have presented two different ideas that link well with everyday activities. Personally, I think both my shoots are strong because they both include pictures that have deep meanings and they both include pictures that link back to the exam paper and the title of the shoots. Although my shoots are very different, they both link back to the same things. I think I have progressed during this shooting period because in my preparatory shoots some images didn't turn out how I would've wanted them to but in the shoots now I have progressed so that these images all work and have meaning. However, I do feel that I can improve on these shoots by maybe being more prepared to take them. This links back to the weather in my second shoot, I can't change what the weather will be like and luckily it didn't effect my images significantly but I could next time plan ahead and see what the weather would be like the days I plan to shoot.
